New Year New Me? – tips to get through new year worries.

Another year is nearly over! Personally I cannot believe how quick this year has passed.

Every December when the year draws to a close I tend to start to reflect on everything that I have (or haven’t achieved). For me, the end of the year can sometimes be a bit of a worrying time…. am I where i’m supposed to be in life? Have I achieved enough? What should I achieve by next December.

I think a lot of us spend time setting goals and expectations for ourselves and we put pressure on ourselves to achieve these goals. December is the time where we all tend to start setting these goals and can it can become much bigger than it needs too. So here are my tips to keep those new year worries at bay!

Make goals

And when I say make goals, I mean realistic ones. Don’t set lots of large goals like losing weight, learning to drive, become a millionaire and run a marathon all in 12 months. It’s not realistic!!! But you could break them down into smaller goals, for example if you’ve never ran a day in your life… set a goal to run a 5K. If you run 7K you’ve achieved and beaten your goal.

Celebrate what you have achieved

It may be the end of the year and you may be thinking about all the things you thought you’d of achieved by now but maybe haven’t.
But we must celebrate the things we have achieved, as we can’t anticipate what we may have had to overcome in the past 12 months. We are continually being faced with unexpected obstacles that we overcome, so we must ensure that we do celebrate our achievements.

Surround yourself with good people

I have found that throughout life, who you surround yourself with really can impact your way of life and your thinking. Surrounding yourself with good, positive people can help you becoming more positive with your thinking.
Share achievements with your friends and family, find out what each others goals are and help each other to achieve them. Use other people to build you up, and let others use you too.

All in all, over the end of the year we’re going to see many posts on social media about how incredible this past year has been for some people. Please don’t let this make you feel worse. Enjoy reflecting and enjoy your new year!
